Our Philosophy
At Mountain Thistle Forest School we believe that every child deserves to have access to nature and a childhood that isn’t rushed. To support these beliefs we follow an Emergent Learning curriculum and trust the child to tell us what they want to learn. We are more of a guide for our students, rather than a teacher, to help them foster a love of learning. We believe children learn more through play. We structure our day to make play most important, but also balance it with quiet rest and structured time.
Our school is ultimately a part of our community and we value our place within it. Our goal is to create a love and understanding of nature in our students to benefit our community, and others, now and in the future.
Land Acknowledgment
Mountain Thistle Forest School humbly and respectfully acknowledges that our school is on the indigenous land of the Lenni Lenape and Susquehannock. We honor & recognize the countless sacrifices made by our Indigenous Hosts so that we may live in the privilege we do. We commit to putting our privilege to use by educating our students about the land we are on and who are the stewards of it.
